Uromac to supply electric draisines to Metro de Madrid

UROMAC SYSTEMS, S.A. has been awarded with the contract to supply 24 yellow fleet machines for the maintenance of the catenary and overhead lines and infrastructure of Metro de Madrid.

SEMOP S.L., our local partner specialized in railway maintenance, will also participate in this Project.

Greater comfort for passengers and less air and noise pollution

Metro de Madrid has entrusted UROMAC with the design and supply of 16 hybrid-electric draisines (railcars) that allow operation in 100% electric mode, along with other auxiliary rolling stock such as rail trailers and rail loaders.

The gradual incorporation of these new auxiliary rail vehicles will help Metro de Madrid in the modernization of the fleet by eliminating diesel and noise emissions, operating in a 100% sustainable manner, and improving the working conditions of operators, thus contributing to meeting the EU’s 2030 climate goals in the rail sector. With this contract, Metro de Madrid is at the forefront of metro companies committed to decarbonization and innovative solutions, in an ongoing modernization process.

The new railcars will be equipped with an elevating working platform for overhead line maintenance, as well as a crane and other equipment for infrastructure maintenance.

The ergonomics, accessibility, and ease of movement within the carriage, as well as the two-way visibility, provide a comfortable and safe workspace, never before seen, for both personnel on board and around the vehicle during maintenance work.

Uromac Clean-Drive 4.0

This contract reaffirms Uromac’s commitment to developing innovative hybrid electric powertrains, giving rise to the new «Clean Drive 4.0» series of electric railcars. These vehicles are designed to improve safety and environmental conditions during railway maintenance in tunnels and confined spaces.

This series of hybrid electric railcars incorporates advanced IOT technology that enables remote management and monitoring.

This order for Metro de Madrid recognizes the innovative work carried out by Uromac, which already has several electric railcars operating on the Madrid Metro network. Throughout this process, UROMAC has collaborated closely with our partner, the service company SEMOP, with extensive experience in metro equipment maintenance, to provide a first-class product and service.

The new order consolidates the workload for the Uromac plant in Asturias

These new draisines will be manufactured entirely at UROMAC’s facilities in Asturias, where other road-rail and rail cars are already under production and will reinforce the plant’s workload for the coming years.

With a history spanning 35 years, UROMAC is a leading manufacturer of railway and road-rail vehicles and machinery used for the construction and maintenance of railway infrastructure, rescue and emergency vehicles, and towing shunting vehicles.

The UROMAC/SEMOP partnership also ensures service that covers the entire product lifecycle.
