New Rescue Train for tunnels
UROMAC has designed, built, and commissioned a customer-specific special rescue train for Mularroya dam tunnel project, a new reservoir under construction for the waters of the Grío and Jalón rivers in Zaragoza (Aragon, Spain). This project includes the construction of a tunnel, of approximately 13 km that would communicate both river basins.
The challenge of this project consisted in the design of a very compact tunnel locomotive and two wagons that travel with the boring machine while excavating and should be used to evacuate the personnel in case of need.
The reduced dimensions of tunnel section obliged UROMAC to develop a new tunnel locomotive with only 900 x 900 mm. section for 600 mm. gauge that shall be driven from any of the two rescue wagons via remote control.
As for the wagons, these are equipped with telescopic roof that allows to extend the height from 900 to 1400 mm. to accommodate 6 passengers each and two stretchers in case of emergency.
The project has been completed in less than 6 months and means a step forward of UROMAC as a leading international supplier of innovative rolling stock special solutions for the railway and mining sectors.
